“Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
The SSP Gala, a bi-annual event that is aimed at raising the profile and funds for SSP. The Gala was held at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg on the 5th of March. This year the focus was on celebrating SSPs 15th years of developing leaders for SA through the theme called “Creating Tomorrow’s Leaders Today.” The evening was graced by 500+ business leaders, professionals and our own alumni. At this event, 4 leaders were honoured for their role in the education landscape in SA, they are: Ms Louisa Mojela, Prof Nick Binedell, Mr Sim Tshabalala as well Mr Tshepang Mogotsi who is also an SSP Alumni.
The evening was both enlightening and entertaining for all. The delegates were addressed by our recent graduate Ayanda Nyathi who obtained 8 subject distinctions in matric 2014, our current scholar Keitumetsi Malatsi, a grade 10 scholar at American International School in Johannesburg; SSP’s Academic Director, Sibongile Khumalo; the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Itumeleng Kgaboesele as well as SSP Founder, Teresa Clarke. Among the presenters were prominent business leaders such as Sizwe Nxasana and Jabu Mabuza. Entertainment included Chester Missing, Theo of Mafikizolo and other acts. There was also a live auction that featured several wonderful prizes including fine art from the Goodman Gallery, exclusive tickets to the UEFA Champions League final in Berlin, a holiday at Martha’s Vineyard, your very own private label on a Ken Forrester barrel of wine, a golf getaway at Sun City, a Jenna Clifford gift basket and many other exciting items.
The event was a big success and we thank everyone for their contribution and support given. Over R1 million was raised on the night, bringing us closer to our goal to raise funds to develop 200 of South Africa’s future leaders over the next 5 years and to have an even bigger impact in our countries most needy communities. We are hopeful that, this is the start of many fruitful and rewarding relationships in building the future of our country.
